This isn’t the first weird Laker scandal involving infidelity

It’s Shakobe 2.0!

Is this story about D’Angelo Russell recording Nick Young talking about having intimate relations with a 19 year old weird? Yes, definitely.

But to Russell’s credit, it doesn’t seem like he meant to do anything malicious. He’s like 16, and he seemed pretty sincere in his press conference. And also Nick Young is clearly a loopy asshole who would have blown it with Iggy Azalea one way or another.

In my opinion, this whole thing is nothing compared to the time in 2004 when Kobe Bryant, in the midst of his rape trial, told a bunch of Colorado policemen that Shaq pays women tons of money not to go squealing about having intimate relations with him.

That’s vintage Kobe. When he Fs everything up, he looks for ways to deflect the blame. That’s true of his playing career, and apparently it’s true of when he gets accused of rape, as well.

Here are some more details from a 2004 article, via ESPN:

On Wednesday, O’Neal dismissed as “ridiculous” Bryant’s allegations that O’Neal had paid up to $1 million in hush money to various women and then took his own shot by saying, “I’m not the one buying love.”

O’Neal made the remark to ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith after the Los Angeles Times quoted a police report as saying Bryant told detectives in Eagle, Colo., “he should have done what Shaq does … that Shaq would pay his women not to say anything” and already had paid up to $1 million “for situations like this.”

That is perhaps the least bro move of all-time. It also went down after Shaq had had been traded to the Miami Heat. Here was his full response:

“This whole situation is ridiculous,” O’Neal told ESPN. “I
never hang out with Kobe, I never hung around him. In the seven or
eight years we were together, we were never together. So how this
guy can think he knows anything about me or my business is funny.
And one last thing — I’m not the one buying love. He’s the one
buying love.”

You cannot tell me these guys actually like each other now. I don’t think anyone in the entire world actually likes Kobe. Not even Kobe likes Kobe.
