This David Blatt interview hits you right in the feels

In a recent interview, David Blatt reminded the world that he was fired after coaching the Cavaliers to the Finals his FIRST YEAR in the NBA.

In this interview, translated on Reddit by Reddit user u/dipmycookie, he really does open up a bit:

Last year with Cleveland you have reached the finals with an excellent record. Why did they choose to part ways with you?

“I can’t think of any reason in the world. Maybe for them, thinking forward, I wasn’t the person to lead. It hurt me very bad. It surprised me, I didn’t feel well, but you move on. There are disappointment in life, the question is what do you do when you take a blow. I could have coached in the NBA next season. It’s more about timing . Sometimes great coaches have to sit outside”.

Did you think about taking an assistant coach position?

“ I had options like that, more than one, but I didn’t want to. For me , being on the heights level in europe is not a downgrade, not in the feeling or in my thinking”.

talking with him on the connection with the big star Lebron James, since David firing Lebron became one of the most despised athletes in Israel. “You have to learn to work with people like him, not manage him”, He says in retrospect. “this takes time. There are a lot of things I would have done differently, with him included. In the reality of the NBA and this team, there is no doubt that Lebron is the center. He is the cornerstone of the club, there is no doubt that lebron was more important to the system than me”.

Although he says he didn’t know the reason, he did state it at the end there.

He is the cornerstone of the club, there is no doubt that lebron was more important to the system than me.

Therein lies the truth. Unfortunately -and not to discredit Lue – the Cavs made it to the Finals again, making it look like whoever’s the coach doesn’t make that much of a difference.  But Blatt definitely deserved a second chance.

I personally never saw this side of Blatt, and it was pretty eye opening. I really do wish the man the best.
