No memes. No JR jokes. It was just a touching moment.
JR Smith has proven to be a troubled young man at various points of his NBA career. He has served as inspiration for many, many, many jokes. His antics came at the exact wrong time—the Twitter age—and JR Smith the trouble maker has shown brighter than JR Smith the regular person.
But after Cleveland’s game seven victory, in which Smith had a few very big moments, JR Smith the person was on full display.
“To hear people talk bad about me hurts because I know it hurts him.”
“The cars is nice, the houses is nice, but none of this matters without them.”
“If it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be able to sit in front of you as a world champion.”
Congrats to JR Smith, a misunderstood person.
